Disaster Response and Preparedness
In 2006, GW EMIG was awarded a grant from the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM)
to implement an educational series on disaster response and preparedness for MD, PA, MPH, and other health professional students.
The project consisted of:
- a year-long monthly seminar series on dynamics, skills, and roles of health professionals and students in disaster response
- clinical hands-on sessions on some of the skills commonly performed in emergency settings
- educational resources for students, such as this website and pocket cards with useful clinical information (distributed to students in September 2007).
We are grateful to the GW Disaster Preparedness Track, Office of Student Opportunities, GW Department of Emergency Medicine, GW Center for Emergency Preparedness, Office of Research Safety, Bio-security & Emergency Management, the current EMIG officers and, of course, SAEM for their support.
